As announced at their live awards ceremony on Saturday night, The Burning Season picked up the jury award for Best Screenplay after screening as the Closing Night Gala at the Canadian Film Festival in Toronto. Screenwriters Jonas Chernick and Diana Frances are also nominated for a Writers Guild of Canada award for Best Feature Film for the script, which picked up its first Best Screenplay award last December at the Whistler Film Festival. The film will be released theatrically across Canada in May and June, before having a broadcast premiere later in 2024.
